We posted in September about how CAS had been nominated to be the UK’s provider of Hunic Exoskeleton suits by XPO Logistics.
XPO, is a leading global provider of innovative and sustainable end-to-end logistics solutions. They have successfully completed a pilot trial of the HUNIC suits at certain company sites. The technology will be deployed across the UK and Ireland later this year which is fantastic news for their employees and their health, safety and well-being.
The HUNIC exoskeleton technology supports the wearers during heavy lifting and ensures correct posture to reduce the risk of injury.
The SoftExos were introduced in January at XPO Logistics network locations and some dedicated warehouses, including:
· Crick (Scania)
· The shared warehouse in Leicester (Samsung)
· The Volkswagen Group UK National Parts Distribution Centre in Dordon
· Glen Dimplex
· Daimler in Milton Keynes.
The Hunic Soft Exo Suit
Significant increases in productivity have been observed with the Hunic Exoskelton suits. It’s important to emphasise that these enhancements do not stem from the ability to lift more loads. However, it’s rather from the continuous support the solution provides.
This support from CAS Ergo helps to reduce fatigue among employees and minimises errors in picking. Alternatively, can be due to inattentiveness, particularly towards the end of their shifts.
The reduction in errors and injuries leads to a significantly lower error rate. This improved accuracy and workplace safety have an immediate impact on overall productivity. Fewer errors mean less time and resources are spent on error correction, resulting in more efficient work processes.
Consequently, we can confidently say that the solution not only safeguards the health and safety at work procedures of employees but also greatly enhances productivity. This reduces the error rate and optimising work processes.

Advanced production tooling is necessary in your production for several reasons:
The right solution enables the production process to be carried out in the quickest and most efficient way. In turn, this boosts your productivity. The use of specialised tools allows workers to complete tasks with greater accuracy and speed. Thus reducing the time required spent on tightening threaded fasteners. The fine tuning of assembly tightening strategies within DC tools can maximise run down speed and reduce fastening time per fixing.

Let’s introduce John Adams!..to the team at CAS Assembly Tooling and Services.
John began working for JCB back in 2004 and in 2007 joined the ‘Manufacturing Engineering’ team. This is where he met a certain Sales Manager who went by the name of Neil Evans!!😉
Neil Evans, Sales Director at CAS Assembly Tooling and Services became a regular visitor to JCB and they often went for a brew!🍵
During his time at JCB John was lucky enough to have worked on numerous projects in the UK and abroad. This ranged from day-to-day problem solving to the introduction of new machines to the assembly line.
Having taken voluntary redundancy from JCB in June 2020 when Covid struck, John went self-employed for a while before taking a Production engineer role in Tamworth.
When an opportunity to join CAS came about in 2022, he jumped at the chance to join the team.
✅John finally joined CAS in Feb 2023 as JCB Service Contract Manager. It’s great to have him on board with the JCB and CAS team!
During John’s spare time he can be found competing in Hillclimb and Sprint events in a Renault sport Clio197, and is a regular in the ‘Curbrough Sprint Championship’ where last year he finished 2nd in class. (Must do better!!)
When not racing, John is most likely to be found in his garage tinkering with the car in the quest to find the odd 1/10th of a second or so.
He follows most car & motorcycle racing so to summarise if it’s got an engine he’s interested!!
John also has a retired racing Greyhound who loves to take him for a walk!🐕
Anti-kick devices at CAS
At one of our customer visits recently, an Operator dropped a battery angled screwdriver after it ‘kicked’ during shut-off. As we provide Anti-kick devices at CAS, this was a prime opportunity for us to be able to solve a problem.
The customer asked CAS for potential countermeasure options, so we took in a similar tool with an anti-kick device fitted. We tightened earth straps at a high level due to possible future health and safety risks.
Line trials carried out by comparing this tool to what they previously used on the actual fixings.
Our contact, the Team Leader and his team were so impressed that we ended up demonstrating to the Section Manager, the H&S Manager and then the Shop Operations Manager.
It was then left with the customer to carry out further trials and was concluded as the countermeasure.
These are on order now and awaiting delivery with the solution rolled out across site and then shared to their sister sites.👌
The solution sold itself and is exactly what they needed to alleviate the issue being experiencing.😃

CAS Assembly Tooling and Services is a market leader in the supply, installation, and servicing of industrial power tooling. We have a great team working all over the UK and we are recruiting for a technician to repair, service and support tooling based in a Tool Crib at a leading automotive OEM in St Athan, South Wales.
Roles and Responsibilities.
- Assessing and testing various pneumatic tools.
- Fault diagnosis for a range of power tools.
- Repairing a range of pneumatic, hydro-pneumatic and battery powered tools.
- Carrying out routine maintenance on industrial power tooling.
- Record details of all repairs carried out and parts used etc.
- Stock inventory management to ensure critical spares are replenished.
- Basic knowledge of excel, word and other computer-based programs for data entry.
A mechanical or maintenance background would be an advantageous but not essential as full training will be given. Route for progression may involve training to develop the following skills and competencies.
- Assessing and testing various electric tools.
- Fault diagnosis for a range of electric tools.
- Configuration of DC Tooling systems with Wi-Fi communications.
- Carrying out annual service and calibrations on DC tooling systems.
- Providing Line technical support for customer production teams.
Much of the work involves mechanical disassembly, inspection, identification of worn or damaged parts and replacing these. The tools are then tested and in some cases the calibration of their transducers checked and amended where necessary.
Our customer has a wide range of hand tools for which CAS are responsible for within the customers assembly facility located in St Athan, South Wales. Part of this role will involve occasional rotations to the customers sister site in Gaydon, Warwickshire being required. Some of the tools are Pneumatic, others are mains powered and the rest are battery powered via Lithium-Ion type power pack.
The more advanced tooling systems are connected to the customers high level production control systems and may need to be replaced and reconfigured with Wi-Fi and other parameters to function correctly.
We have a simple reporting system where data for each tool visited is entered into a spread sheet. This raw data is then collated and reported directly to the customer so competence in data entry is important.
This role is based within our customers assembly facility forming part of their mission critical team, so professionalism and customer care are paramount to the successful development of any applicant taking on this opportunity.
It will include a shift rotation pattern such as early, day shift and late shifts. There may be occasions that overtime will be required on weekdays and or weekends to support the customers production schedules. Please note that some tools are heavy so a degree of manual labor and lifting will be required. You will be required to always adhere to the customers health and safety policies and procedures. A simple Site induction will be carried out prior to gaining access to the customers site as your normal place of work.
- A full British driving licenses is essential to this position due to the location of customers sites.
- There are excellent facilities on this site which are available to all CAS employees.
- The salary band for this role is £22,000 – £24,000 with an increment on completion of probation.
- Salary is negotiable dependent upon experience and relevant skill sets.
- Projected Start Date for these positions will be Monday 1st of May 2023.
